The present invention provides a composition, and for the use of this composition as a catalytically active composition in processes for synthesis of chemical compounds, especially for hydroformylation of olefinically unsaturated hydrocarbon mixtures. Preferably, the composition comprises a metal complex, especially an Rh complex having a phosphine or phosphite ligand, on an inert porous carrier, and is loaded for the purposes of the hydroformylation with the aldol by-product of the desired aldehyde, in the manner of an application of the "Supported Liquid Phase" (SLP) concept.
