PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and method for manufacture of immobilized biological layers to be used in sensors for the measurement of biologically significant analyte species in biological fluids.SOLUTION: An apparatus comprises: a coating head for coating a controlled volume of a photoformable enzyme-containing matrix at a pre-selected location on the surface and a UV radiation source with a registration and alignment means capable of focusing a beam of radiation onto an area substantially covering the pre-selected location at a predetermined time and for a predetermined duration, at a predetermined intensity, after the matrix has been coated. A method comprises the steps of: (a) coating a controlled volume of a photoformable matrix at a pre-selected location on the surface, the photoformable matrix comprising a biologically active material; and (b) applying a UV radiation beam onto an area substantially covering the pre-selected location, starting at a predetermined time after the volume has been coated and for a predetermined duration at a predetermined intensity, to form the immobilized layer.
|
