Disclosed is an electrochemical energy storage device of aqueous alkali metal ions, comprising a positive electrode, a negative electrode, a separator and an aqueous electrolyte containing alkali metal ions, characterized in that the active material of the positive electrode is an alkali metal-rich manganese-based solid solution or complex with the general formula of x&Agr;2&Mgr;nO3·(1-x)&Agr;&Mgr;O2, wherein &Agr; is selected from one or more of Li, Na and K; M is selected from one or more of the transition metals of Mn, M, Co, Cr, Al, Ru and Fe; and 0 ≤ x ≤ 1. The crystal structure of the active material of the positive electrode, i.e. the alkali metal-rich manganese-based solid solution or complex, contains a layered structure or a spinel structure; the electrolyte is an aqueous solution containing a sodium or potassium salt; and the material of the positive electrode can be subjected to a stable charge and discharge cycle in the electrolyte. The electrochemical energy storage device of aqueous alkali metal ions has a high capacity, low costs, security and environmental protection, and can be used in energy storage devices of various scales. |
