ELECTRONIC CONTROL OF FLUID SPECIES

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide control and operation of fluid species in a micro fluid system.SOLUTION: A system and a method are used to produce droplets of a fluid surrounded by a liquid by using e.g. an electric field, mechanical deformation and addition of an intervening fluid. In a specified embodiment, a nearly uniform number of ingredients can be contained in individual droplets. More specifically, the same number of specified ingredients can be contained in individual droplets in a content of 95% or higher. The system and method are used to divide a fluid droplet into two droplets through an interaction between an electric charge and/or a dipole with an electric field. In another embodiment, the system and method are used to fuse droplets together through an interaction between an electric charge and/or a dipole with an electric field. In still another embodiment, a reaction can be started and discriminated by fusion of droplets.
