providing a material capable of absorbing or adsorbing ammonia, at least partially saturated with ammonia, producing an intermediate element, including compacting the material so as to form the intermediate element, stacking at least two intermediate elements in a stacking direction, in a shell of the ammonia storage cartridge; and applying a pressure, in the stacking direction, on the stack of the intermediate elements in the shell.
