Provided are a resistance welding apparatus and a method thereof. The resistance welding apparatus comprises: a pattern generating part for generating a current carrying pattern for welding a welded material; and a current applying part for applying a current to vertical electrodes bordering the welded material according the generated current carrying pattern. The current carrying pattern includes a main current carrying pattern for welding the welded material by growing a nugget formed in a welding part of the welded material; and a pre current carrying pattern for removing a thin film layer formed on the surface of the welded material before the main current carrying pattern. Therefore, the present invention has an effect of preventing the expulsion generated before the nugget grows fully.
