[Class 7 (ii)] In a two-stroke engine cylinder piston-controlled ports are all on one side, the inlet ports S<1>, S2, being (a) either between, or on both sides of the exhaust ports A<1>, A<2>, (b) inclined at more than 60‹ to a transverse plane, and (c) either parallel with, or inclined at an acute angle to, the plane B B. By these means the scavenging currents flow up the side of the cylinder containing the ports, across the head and down the opposite side as shown by the arrows.
