An endoscope system comprising: an image storage unit which stores three-dimensional image information acquired in advance from a subject; a hollow organ extraction unit which extracts a prescribed hollow organ from the three-dimensional image information; an objective optical system which is provided to the distal end of an insertion unit of an endoscope; a line of sight direction detection unit which detects the line of sight direction from the objective optical system; a direction comparison unit which compares the line of sight direction, and the core line direction of the prescribed hollow organ that has been extracted by the hollow organ extraction unit; and a position/orientation information recording unit which records information about the position, and the orientation of the distal end of the insertion unit of the endoscope when an angle formed by the core line direction, and the line of sight direction is equal to or less than a prescribed threshold value. |
