A wastewater treatment system that includes at least two identically-equipped tanks connected to a shared inlet, a valve at the inlet that directs an influent flow to at least one of the tanks while the influent flow is shut off to at least another one of the tanks, and a membrane module through which clean supernatant is removed from at least one of the tanks at a time, wherein the membrane module also acts as an aeration system that oxygenates and mixes the wastewater in at least one of the tanks at a time and a decanting device that draws off clean supernatant from at least one of the tanks at a time. The wastewater treatment system also includes a system that passes a back-flow of air through the membrane module into at least one of the tanks at a time. Certain embodiments may include a single tank.
