1. A communication system comprising:
a communication network comprising a plurality of communication cells, a plurality of mobile communication devices each operable to connect into the communication network via at least one of said communication cells, and communication apparatus for providing at least one of said communication cells, wherein the communication apparatus comprises: means for providing a first communication cell via which a mobile communication device can connect to a communication network; means for determining whether a mobile communication device is connected to the communication network via the first communication cell; and monitoring means for monitoring for further communication cells in dependence on a result of the determination by the determining means wherein said monitoring means is operable to:
when no mobile communication devices are determined to be connected via the first communication cell, monitor for further communication cells operating using any of a first set of radio access technology/frequency band combinations; andwhen at least one mobile communication device is determined to be connected via the first communication cell, monitor for further communication cells operating using any of a second set of radio access technology/frequency band combinations;wherein at least one of said first and second sets comprises at least one radio access technology/frequency band combination not present in the other of said first and second sets. |
