a carriage that moves in a first direction and on which a recording head that performs recording by discharging ink is mounted; a transport unit that transports a recording medium in a second direction that crosses the first direction; and a preliminary discharge unit configured to cause the recording head to perform preliminary discharge, wherein the preliminary discharge unit changes a position of the recording head in the first direction based on a position of the recording medium in the second direction when the recording head performs preliminary discharge. |
