[Class 136 (ii)] Treadle mechanism for chain - operated bicycles comprises left-hand and righthand pedal arms Al, Ar respectively, which are of the cranked form shown, and are pivoted at Kl, Kr by a snug or projection at the cranked part or knee, to left-hand and righthand cranks Cl, Cr keyed to the crank-shaft Cs, and are also pivoted at Jl, Jr to oscillating rods or links Rl, Rr which are pivoted at a fixed point F on the chain-stays or on a member carried thereby, the arrangement being such that the pedals move in a kidney-shaped path in front of the chain-wheel and travel at a greater speed in the upward than in the downward direction, dead-centre positions being eliminated.
