Abstract A method of exploration drilling into an underground ore body comprises the 5 steps of drilling pre-collar holes 10 through waste material 12 outside the actual ore body 14 using an in-the-hole hammer drilling system 20 powered by high-pressure water. Then, when the ore body 14 is reached, a conventional diamond drill is used for drilling a solid core through the ore body 14 for assaying.
