488,140. Water - jet apparatus. FORGES & ATELIERS DE CONSTRUCTIONS ELECTRIQUES DE JEUMONT. Aug. 13, 1937, No. 22306. Convention date, Sept. 29, 1936. [Class 69 (i)] In water-jet apparatus such as a fountain, comprising a jet nozzle 3 supported at the surface of a river &c. by a float 1 which is sunk to the bottom when the jet is not in use, the submer. sion and emersion are rendered automatic by the action of an ejector 6 fed from the watersupply pipe 4. When the apparatus is in use, the ejector prevents the entry of water into the float, but when the jet is turned off the ejector action ceases, and water enters the float through the ejector tube until it reaches the lower end of a tube 2, when the float sinks and the water rises further in it to the level B, compressing the entrapped air. When the jet is again started the ejector empties the water from the float faster than water can enter through the tube 2, and the float finally rises to the surface. The float may be maintained at the surface when the jet is stopped by closing a cock 7 on the tube 2, which prevents the escape of air and consequently the entry of water. In a modification, the jet nozzle itself is used for the ejector. In a further modification, a floatoperated three-way cock supplies, when the float is submerged, a supplementary ejector which rapidly empties the water. When the apparatus has risen the cock is operated by its float to cut off the supplementary ejector and supply the jet.
