A system is provided, comprising a plurality of different wireless telecommunications networks, an identity module (SIM) 21 registrable on the different networks and containing multiple unique identifiers 22, eachbeing associated with a respective network; and a device 20, to communicate with a network 90 when the identity module is registered on that network. The identity module comprises a common security key Ki1 associated with at least two of the unique identifiers. The system preferably comprises an authentication server 93, which may comprise a database to store the unique identifiers and security keys. Each network may comprise a local location register which redirects requests to a central location register in accordance with the unique identifier. The identity module may attempt to connect to one of the networks in accordance with one or more predetermined criteria, such as cellular coverage, signal strength, cost, service quality, device priority, or functionality on the network. The identity module may attempt to connect to one of the networks using the unique identifiers in a predetermined sequence. A service platform 91 may instruct the identity module to re-order this sequence, or add or delete identifiers from it. A method, an identity module for use in the system and a network entity are also provided. The multiple unique identifiers may be International Mobile Subscriber Identifiers (IMSI) which share a common security key. |
