An apparatus 10 for treating a test sample includes a slidably moveable drawer 13 for supporting one or more test sample containers 30, said drawer being moveable between a deployed and operative condition, and a heatable member 23 for heating an upper part of the one or more sample containers. When the drawer is moved from a deployed condition to the operative condition the heatable member is caused to move into engagement with an upper part of the test sample container(s). In another aspect, the apparatus includes a housing 11 a, carrier member 14 moveably supported relative to the housing, a slidably moveable drawer, a heatable member for heating an upper part of the test sample container(s), wherein the heatable member is moveably supported on the carrier member. The apparatus is used to amplify segments of DNA using the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). |
