<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a resistance spot welding method enhancing the strength of respective weld joints between a thin plate and a thick plate and between the thick plates even with a gap existing between any steel plates of a plate assembly in the case of carrying out resistance spot welding of the plate assembly with a large plate thickness ratio in which the thin plate is superimposed on one of two or more superimposed thick plates. <P>SOLUTION: A plate assembly workpiece 10 with the thin plate 11 superimposed on two superimposed thick plates 12, 13 is held between a pair of electrodes 21, 22, and while applying pressing force to the plate assembly workpiece 10, a large welding current is applied between the upper and lower electrodes to carry out resistance spot welding. When the gap exists between any steel plates of the plate assembly, the workpiece 10 is fixed, and the electrode 21 on the side abutting on the thin plate 11 is made a fixed electrode of a welding gun, and the electrode 22 on the side abutting on the thick plate 13 is made a movable electrode to carry out welding in two-stage process.
