A method for performing a seismic survey, comprises towing a spread (10) comprising seismic streamers behind a vessel (11), the vessel traveling forward in a direction along a survey track; navigating a remotely operable vehicle having a current-measuring device ahead of the vessel in the survey track that the spread will encounter at a future time, and detecting current data; and using the current data to determine settings for the spread.
