<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To determine a material of a laid cast iron pipe, particularly whether the laid cast iron pipe is a ductile cast iron pipe or a gray cast iron pipe, with the cast iron pipe kept in a laid state. <P>SOLUTION: A method for determining a material of a laid cast iron pipe comprises: a first evaluation step which sets a first material determination condition with respect to ultrasonic propagation time on the basis of thickness information on a thickness of the laid cast iron pipe with a surface thereof cleaned and determines whether the laid cast iron pipe is a gray cast iron pipe or a ductile cast iron pipe by comparing the ultrasonic propagation time in a thickness direction from the surface of the cast iron pipe with the first material determination condition; and a second evaluation step which, when a determination by the first evaluation step is not possible, determines whether the cast iron pipe is the gray cast iron pipe or the ductile cast iron pipe by comparing an ultrasonic attenuation rate of the cast iron pipe with a second material determination condition. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT</p> |
