Tertiary olefines such as isobutylene or trimethylethylene are chlorinated so as to obtain a high percentage of substitution products of olefines by introducing chlorine into the liquid olefine at the rate of at least 0.05 mol. of chlorine per mol. of olefine per minute, while maintaining in the reaction zone a temperature substantially below the boiling point of the olefine at the prevailing pressure. Thus a mixture of chlorolefines, tertiary amyl chloride, dichlorides and a small amount of polychlorides is obtained from trimethylethylene.
|
