Method of manufacturing a tapered roller bearing

A tapered roller bearing is proposed in which the retainer will not wear during use even if the retainer is subjected to bottom-expanding and caulking steps. Circumferential end faces on both sides of pockets of the retainer have a crown shape so that even if deformation occurs in recesses of the pockets during bottom-expanding and caulking steps, the tapered rollers contact the circumferential end faces on both sides at their crowned portion. Thus, the tapered rollers will not locally contact the recesses of the pockets. This prevents wear of the retainer and deterioration of lubricating oil by wear powder.
