[Class 4] A resistance flap c, Fig. 5, is mounted on an extension flap a<2> and is operatively connected to a fluid-pressure actuated device, the supply of fluid to which is controlled electrically in such manner that the resistance flap is operable in all adjusted positions of the extension flap. Resistance flap c, Fig. 1, of which the function is to increase the drag of the wings during landing, is rested in an extension flap a<2> normally housed in recess a<1> of wing a. Flap c is pivoted at its trailing edge c<1>, Fig. 5, and is moved into the air flow by a pneumatic jack d of which the ram d<1> is pivoted to a lever c2 on the flap. The pressure source is a bottle d<5>, Fig. 1, housed in the extension flap and supplied by an air pump d<4> driven by an electric motor d<5>. Jack valves d<2> are controlled by electromagnets d<3>. At each end, flap c carries guide tubes c<3>, Figs. 7 and 8, which carry rollers c<4>, c<5> engaging in spaced curved guide channels el. Holes c<6>, c' are provided, one near each end of the guide tube, and are adapted to be engaged by a locking pin f carried by a spring- pressed plunger f contained in a housing f<3>. Withdrawal of pin f is effected by a solenoid f<4> also housed in f<3>. The circuits controlling electromagnets d3, motor d<4>, solenoids f<4> and a flap position indicator g<7>, Fig. 2, comprise leads g, g<1>, g<2>, g3 which are connected to arcuate strips g<9>, Figs. 1 and 4, on the fuselage b adapted to be engaged by contacts g<8> movable with the extension flap. Energy is derived from a source g<5>, Fig. 2, and the return of the circuits is effected through the frame. In a modification, flap c is pivoted at the leading edge. According to the Provisional Specifications, the electro-pneumatic control means may be applied to a flap nested in the main wing.</p> |
