A single-step method of preparing a free-flowing, non-dusting micronutrient-coated solid fertiliser material, the method comprises applying a suspension of one or more micronutrient materials in an oil onto particulate solid fertiliser material at ambient temperature without chemical reaction or chelation. Also claimed is the oil based suspension of micronutrient material and the method of preparing it for use as a fertiliser by blending an oil with particles of a compound containing the micronutrient material. Preferably the oil is a vegetable oil. Also preferably the micronutrient material comprises at least one compound of an element selected from boron, copper, iron, manganese, molybdenum, zinc, or mixtures thereof; with particle sizes in the range of 0.1 to 100µm. The oil and micronutrient suspension preferably has a solids loading in the range of 30 to 80 weight% and a viscosity of 500 to 6000 cPs at 20°C. In further embodiments the suspension further includes a dispersing agent, a rheology agent, thickener, anti-settle agent or colorant material. |
