A nonwoven substrate comprises one or more layers of fibres and has a specific surface area in the range of 0.5m2/g to about 5m2/g, and preferably a surface tension fluid strikethrough time to basis weight ratio or 0.37 to 5.0 s/gsm. The fibres may comprise polyolefin and 11% to 35% lipid ester by weight with a melting point greater than 35 degrees centigrade The fibres may comprise metlblown and/or spunbond fibres. The fibres may comprise fine fibres having a diameter of less than 1 micrometer. In a time greater than 24 hours the substrate may increase in specific surface area by at least 10% and preferably between 50% and 200%. Some of the fibres may have a mass-average fibre diameter is preferably above 8-12 micrometers and a specific area of 1.6-0.8 m2/g. The substrate may be used to form an absorbent article such as a diaper, nappy, training pant, adult incontinence product and feminine hygiene products. The absorbent article may also comprise liquid impervious and liquid pervious material and barrier leg cuff.
|
