<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a belt cleaner unit 19 which inhibits developer, which is conveyed to a detection space 37A even after the developer of predetermined amount is detected at the detection space 37A, from being excessively compressed and stuck. <P>SOLUTION: Developer is conveyed from a storage part 31 which stores developer recovered from a belt to a detection space 37A by an auger 39B. Even when a detection mechanism 37 detects that developer in the detection space 37A has reached a predetermined amount (the storage part 31 is in near-full state), an image forming apparatus continues forming images and developer is continued to be conveyed to the detection space 37A. The developer in the detection space 37A which has exceeded the predetermined amount is supplied from a communication port 35J to a preliminary storage part 41 by conveyance force of the auger 39B.
