<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical waveguide element allowing low-loss connection of an optical waveguide having a gap part to an external optical transmission body such as an optic fiber. <P>SOLUTION: An optical waveguide element 10 comprises a core part 4 including: a high refractive index region 6 for light waveguide; and a gap part 5 which has a lower refractive index than the high refractive index region 6. The gap part 5 is formed along the light waveguide direction and separates the high refractive index region 6 in the width direction into two partial areas 6a, 6b. The core part 4 includes a main taper part 12 where the width of partial areas 6a, 6b decreases toward a narrower end 12a in the waveguide direction. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT</p> |
