An apparatus for testing vehicle restraint members, such as crash barriers or safety fences, comprises a support 62 for each end of the member, each of said supports being provided with a clamp 60 to apply a clamping force to the respective end of the member. A pre-determined deflecting load is applied to the front face intermediate to the ends of the member by means such as hydraulic ram 80, and a measuring device 70 measures the deflection of the member resulting from application of the load. The clamps may be profiled to correspond to particular members and may be arranged to measure the thickness of the member being clamped. The apparatus may be used to test crash barriers that have been removed from a location to determine if they are suitable for reinstallation or reuse at another location. |
