PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce toner consumption and light-emission energy of a light-emitting unit in detecting a position of a toner pattern or toner density without decreasing work efficiency of image formation.SOLUTION: A toner information detection method includes: a preliminary detection process for causing, with the use of radiating means having light-emitting units E1 to E9 and light-receiving means having light-receiving units D1 to D9, r(≤9) light-emitting units of the irradiating means to emit light to preliminarily detect position range information of a toner pattern YP1; and a main detection process for selecting and causing s(<r) light-emitting units of the radiating means to emit light on the basis of the detection result in the preliminary detection process to detect information relating to the position of the toner pattern and/or toner density. |
