A method of raising the serum titer of anti-IL-1α antibodies in an individual previously determined to have a low serum titer of IL-1α autoantibodies, the method comprising the step of: administering to the individual previously determined to have a low serum titer of IL-1α autoantibodies a pharmaceutical composition which consists essentially of: antibodies that target IL-1α and a pharmaceutically acceptable vehicle.
