The present invention relates to a display apparatus with an improved structure to secure images by preventing the images from being exposed to others, and a security control method thereof. According to the present invention, the display apparatus includes: a display unit which displays an image which a user can recognize visually; a user recognition unit which recognizes information on a user when the user visually recognize the display unit; a user authentication unit which stores the recognition information of the user for a visible region of the display unit recognized by the user recognition unit; a user information acquisition unit which acquires the visually recognized information of the user who is visually recognizing the display unit through the user recognition unit; and a control unit which controls the operation of the display unit so as to compare the visually recognized information of the user with the recognition information of the user to adjust a visually recognized region of the display unit which the user visually recognizes. Accordingly, restrictions on positions visually recognized by the user can be loosened and fidelity of individual security can be improved by displaying images only at the position of an authenticated user regardless of the position of the user and blocking the images from being visually recognized at positions visually recognized by others, for which security is needed.
