Compositions for treating parasitic infections and methods of using the compositions to treat subjects with parasitic infections are provided. Methods of selecting compositions for use in treating parasitic infections are further provided.

A method of treating a parasitic infection in a mammal or bird in need thereof, comprising administering to the mammal or bird a composition which comprises between 9.92% and 37.2% isolated para-cymene, between 6.36% and 9.8% isolated linalool, between 3.2% and 4.07% isolated alpha-pinene and between 13.5% and 46.2% isolated thymol wherein the composition is encapsulated or microencapsulated with an outer shell material.
