A system for use in a healthcare facility having a nurse call system with a nurse call computer located remotely from patient rooms is provided. The system includes a hospital bed having communication circuitry configured for communicating data from the hospital bed. An interface unit is spaced from the hospital bed. The interface unit has a first connector to which the hospital bed couples via a wired connection, a second connector which is communicatively coupled to the nurse call system, and circuitry comprising a third connector for connection to an external device.

A system for alerting caregivers carrying wireless communication devices of alarm conditions associated with pieces of equipment in a healthcare facility, the system comprising at least one computer device that is remote from the pieces of equipment and that receives data from the pieces of equipment, a display screen associated with the computer device, the computer device being operable to display at least one alarm selection screen on the display screen, the at least one alarm selection screen permitting a user to select types of alarms to which designated caregivers are to be notified, the computer device being operable to initiate a communication to the wireless communication device of at least one of the designated caregivers in response to the data received from at least one of the pieces of equipment being indicative of at least one of the types of alarms selected on the at least one alarm selection screen, wherein the at least one computer device is operable to display a whiteboard screen that includes a list of patients and bed status information for each respective patient of the listed patients.
