A photographing apparatus comprises: a photographing device comprising a plurality of pixels each of which has at least two photoelectric conversion parts; a reading part for reading a first phase signal, and an adding signal obtained by adding the first phase signal and a second phase signal; a subtraction part for subtracting the first phase signal from the adding signal; a focus detection part for detecting a focus state on the basis of the first phase signal and the second phase signal; and a limiter part which suppresses an output of a first photoelectric conversion part and an output of a second photoelectric conversion part not to exceed a threshold value. The limiter part suppresses the output of the first photoelectric conversion part and the output of the second photoelectric conversion part, about a different color filter.
