The present invention relates to a battery management system and, more specifically, to an apparatus and a method for balancing using a voltage difference that optimizes heat emission or the state of a battery by detecting a voltage difference (hereinafterΔVoltage) between a battery cell and a battery cell in the process of charging and discharging a battery pack and thereby maintaining voltage between the battery cells. According to the present invention, an ideal battery pack can be used by minimizing a voltage difference between the battery cells and thereby increasing the efficiency of charging and discharging a battery.
