A method for detecting a patient's expiration to inspiration variations or vice versa involving the stages of emitting an electromagnetic signal towards the patient and receiving the signal reflected from the patient, transforming the reflected signal to produce the first signal, dephasing the reflected electromagnetic signal and transforming it to produce the second signal, using a computing unit to detect simultaneous first zero transients in a time derivative of the first signal and in a time derivative of the second signal, simultaneous second zero transients in the time derivative of the first signal and in the time derivative of the second signal, and simultaneous third zero transients in the time derivative of the first signal and in the time derivative of the second signal, determining the first and second vectors and calculating their scalar product as an indicator value for the patient's expiration to inspiration variations or vice versa comparing the indicator value to the pre-set threshold value and specifying the patient's expiration to inspiration variations or vice versa, if the indicator value is less than the threshold value. A device for implementing the method involves a two-channel Doppler radar sensor and the computing unit.EFFECT: using the invention enables providing more accurate measurement and detection of the respiratory rate.6 cl, 6 dwg
