The present invention relates to the field of communications and provides a communications method and apparatus, which can solves the problem in the prior art that an exception may occur on a serving gateway (SGW) when a mobility management entity (MME) delays delivering a paging message or a UE uses a long discontinuous reception (DRX) period for power saving. The method comprises: (S101) an MME obtaining information about a UE; (S102) the MME determining, according to the information, whether the UE meets a first preset condition; (S103) if the UE meets the first preset condition, the MME generating a first indication, the first indication being used for indicating a SGW to keep first data or discard the first data, the first data being downlink data of the UE; and (S104) the MME sending the first indication to the SGW, so that the SGW processes the first data according to the first indication. |
