The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus to recognize a fastener. The method to recognize a fastener includes: loading 3D data component to be recognized; analyzing variation in a cross section of the component with respect to a main axis direction of the loaded component; classifying the components as a first component group having a bolt or a screw when the largest cross section point of the component is separated from a center of the component, and classifying the components as a second component group having a nut or a pin when the maximum cross section point of the component is located on the center of the component; classifying the components classified as the first component group into the bolt and the screw by analyzing variation in a cross section with respect to one end opposite to the largest cross section point based on the center on both ends of the component; and classifying the components classified as the second component group into a washer, the nut, or the nut by calculating the ratio of the component′s diameter to its thickness thereof. According to the method and the apparatus to recognize a fastener, variation in a cross section of a loaded component is analyzed and a type and the size of a fastener may be obtained using an image template matched in accordance to the result such that an automation efficiency is an assembly process plan, and the method and the apparatus may be valuable in selecting an assembling method and tool. |
