An insulating block (10) having a generally flattened prismatic shape for producing a sealed and insulated tank wall, comprising: a polymer foam pad (1) of which the density is greater than 100kg/m3, the polymer foam pad having cutouts so as to form a plurality of corner surfaces (2) that each extend between two adjacent side surfaces (3) of the pad, and a plurality of corner posts (5) fixed to the polymer foam pad in the cutouts and extending through the whole thickness of the insulating block between the upper and lower surfaces, in which the corner posts (5) have a thermal expansion coefficient that is between 75% and 125% of the thermal expansion coefficient of the polymer foam forming the pad and have a compressive elastic limit greater than 1.5 MPa, and preferably greater than 3 MPa, the corner posts each having an inner side surface (6) adhered to the corner surface (2).
