PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve such a problem that a treatment method of a monomethyl sulfate capable of reducing formation amount of dimethyl ether, because dimethyl ether is formed when an alkali metal salt of monomethyl sulfuric acid is decomposed.SOLUTION: A treatment method of an alkaline aqueous solution of a monomethyl sulfate comprises removing formed methanol while adding the alkaline aqueous solution of the monomethyl sulfate to water having a temperature equal to or higher than the boiling point of methanol. A preferable treatment method of an alkaline aqueous solution of a monomethyl sulfate comprises removing formed methanol by distilling-out water and methanol from a mixture obtained while adding the alkaline aqueous solution of the monomethyl sulfate to water having a temperature equal to or higher than the boiling point of methanol.
