A constraint-based configurator receives a configuration property expressed as a numeric value. A calculation is performed using the numeric value and a constraint is evaluated based on the result of the calculation. An output is automatically displayed based on the evaluated constraint.

1. A computer-implemented method of performing a configuration, comprising:
receiving, at a user interface display of a constraint-based configuration system, a configuration input as a numerical user input value in numerical form, setting a value for a configuration variable; automatically evaluating a mathematical formula, used for the configuration, with an evaluation engine, based on the numerical user input value; and displaying a value for a second configuration variable based on a result of the evaluation of the mathematical formula on the user interface display.
