A method for identifying a woman having an increased risk of developing venous thrombosis, the method comprises genotyping the woman with respect to at least one of the F9 G32023A (rs440051) polymorphism and the F9 5:32164:6/4 polymorphism (rs35599944), wherein detecting the presence of the genotype AA of the F9 G32023A polymorphism (rs440051) and/or the genotype GT6/GT6 of the F9 5:32164:6/4 polymorphism (rs35599944) is indicative for an increased risk for developing venous thrombosis.
