A solvent control method for controlling the position of a solvent using a solvent control device relating to an embodiment of the present invention, said solvent control device comprising a substrate, multiple electrodes that are disposed on the substrate, a dielectric that is disposed so as to cover the substrate and electrodes, and a water-repellent film that is disposed on the dielectric and has water repellency, wherein the position of a solvent on the water-repellent film is controlled by applying a voltage to the electrodes, and said solvent contains at least one member selected from the group consisting of formamide, ethylene glycol monoethyl ether and tetrabromoethane and has a polarity force component of 3.1-28.8 mN/m inclusive.
