1. A compound, comprising a structure of formula (I): wherein the compound comprises at least two O—PIII bonds, which are optionally formed with the same PIII or from different PIIIs; when the compound comprises two structures of formula (I), a first structure of formula (I) and a second structure of formula (I) are connected to each other by a C10-C10′ carbon bond or via a unit of:

X1 is connected to a PIII of the first structure and X2 to a PIII of the second structure,G1 is a linear or branched, aliphatic or aromatic or heteroaromatic or fused aromatic or fused aromatic-heteroaromatic hydrocarbon group with any desired further substitution,X1, and X2 are each independently selected from the group consisting of O, NY1, and CY2Y3,where Y1, Y2, and Y3 are each independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, a substituted or unsubstituted aliphatic group, and a substituted or unsubstituted aromatic hydrocarbon group,with two or more of Y1 to Y3 optionally linked to each other covalently; R1, R2, R3, R4, R5, R6, and R7 are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, a substituted or unsubstituted, linear or branched, aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon group; F, Cl, Br, I, —OR8, —C(O)R9, —CO2R10, —CO2M1, —SR1, —SOR12, —SO2R13, —SO3R14, —SO3M2, —NR15R16; and —OR17, where R8, R9, R10, R10, R1, R12, R13, R14, R15, R16 are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, a substituted or unsubstituted, linear or branched, aliphatic or aromatic or heteroaromatic or fused aromatic or fused aromatic-heteroaromatic hydrocarbon group, R17 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, an unsubstituted or substituted, linear or branched, aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon group; two or more of R1 to R17 are optionally linked to each other covalently; and M1 and M2 are each independently selected from the group consisting of an alkali metal, an alkaline earth metal, ammonium, and phosphonium. |
