PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a position identification device for classifying the type of an object and a mobile robot having the same.SOLUTION: A position identification device 7 for identifying an object disposed in a peripheral environment by the reflected light of a laser beam to be emitted, and for estimating the position and angle of a mobile robot 1 arranged so as to be movable in the peripheral environment includes: a laser distance sensor 6 for storing the map data of the peripheral environment where the mobile robot 1 travels, and for measuring a distance from the mobile robot 1 to the object; means for identifying the position and angle of mobile robot on the basis of the distance data from the mobile robot 1 to the object measured by the laser distance sensor 6 and the map data; travel region storage means 12 for storing the travel region of the mobile robot 1; specific region storage means 13 for storing a specific region different from the travel region of the mobile robot 1; and object determination means 14 for determining whether or not the object is placed in the travel region of the mobile robot 1 stored in the travel region storage means 12 or the specific region stored in the specific region storage means 13. |
