[Class 7 (ii)] In an engine controlled by a governor R driven from the engine shaft S and actuating a throttle valve L in a carburetter A, variations in the air-flow to the carburetter A from an inlet E, due to changes in the quantity of fuel supplied to the carburetter by aworm B, actuate a diaphragm V exposed through a pipe 9 on one side to the air pressure in front of a filter F in the air inlet E and on the other, through a pipe 10, to the pressure behind the filter, and the diaphragm alters the effective diameter of a fan Y coupled to a pinion 6 in a differential housing 4 rotated by the engine shaft S ; the housing includes driving pinions 5, 8 meshing with the pinion 6, and also with a driven pinion 7 coupled to the worm B, the speed of which is thus varied with the condition of the fuel in the carburetter A. The fan may be replaced by a pronged disc dipping into liquid the level of which is varied according to the pressures adjacent the filter F.
