503,915. Manures ;treating plants and seeds. LONGFORD, H. G., and CARTER, T. (Sellei, J.) Oct. 12, 1937, Nos. 27750, 36021, and 36022. [Classes 6 (ii), 58, and 111] A sensitizing-agent for the treatment of plants, soils, and seeds consists of an aqueous alkaline solution of a fluorescent dye of the xanthene series (e.g. fluorescein), in which the alkali used for rendering the dye soluble in water is sodium bicarbonate, and which contains in addition a water-soluble metal salt or salts, the solution comprising per 100 litres of water, 0À05-0À75 grams of the fluorescent dye and 0À01-0À20 grams of metal salt or salts and the constituents being such that no precipitate of the dye with the other constituents is formed. Alternatively, the constituents in the proportions above referred to may be admixed with 100 kgs. of a finely powdered carrier such as peat instead of the 100 litres of water, sufficient sodium bicarbonate also being present to give an alkaline solution of the dye with water. Suitable metal salts are copper and/or iron sulphate. The powdered constituents may be premixed in the proportions necessary to yield the products above referred to on further mixture with water or solid carrier. The agent may be employed for spraying growing plants, for watering the surrounding soil or as a seed dressing. The solid form of the product may be incorporated with the soil. The first Provisional Specification describes the use of any fluorescent chemical such as euthrosene, eosine, quinine for the treatment of soil, seeds or plants, if desired with the addition of gold, platinum, iron or copper salts and sodium bicarbonate or carbonate. Specifications 364,046 and 470,356, [both in Group IV], are referred to.
