[Class 4] An aeroplane includes wings having relatively thin sections in the outer portion thereof and relatively thick sections in the inner portion and means are provided, responsive to the angle of incidence of the wings, to determine whether the boundary layer of air will be sucked off the inner or the outer wing portions. As shown, the wing tapers from a thick root to a thin tip and slots b<1>, b<2> are provided respectively in the inner and outer portions. The slots are connected to a suction device and slot b<1> or b<2> is operative according to the position of a valve e operated automatically by a slotforming slat g. Overriding manual control is provided.
