Embodiments disclosed herein may include a sensor which is capable of enabling a generally more comfortable fit for a patient while reducing artifacts due to patient motion. In an embodiment, the sensor includes a generally tubular sensor body with a lengthwise opening to enable expansion of the sensor body to accommodate a patient's digit. In an embodiment, an opening may be provided to enable the patient's nail to protrude from an end of the sensor. The sensor body may be generally flexible and semi-rigid, such that the body may be expandable, yet is capable of maintaining a generally digit-conforming shape when not applied to the patient's digit. In an embodiment, a rigid or semi-rigid sensing component assembly may be integrated into the sensor. The sensor may be coupled to a monitor to measure the patient's physiological parameters, including but not limited to pulse rate, blood oxygen saturation, body water percentage, etc.
|
