PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method for vehicle travel support, capable of reducing a sense of incongruity imparted to a driver, in steering support when traveling in a narrow passage. SOLUTION: Travel support torque being torque in the inverse direction of steering torque is calculated based on an approach degree to an obstacle of one's own vehicle V in at least one of both sides in the vehicle width direction of the one's own vehicle V and the steering torque input by the driver to a steering wheel 16 possessed by the one's own vehicle V, and the calculated travel support torque is output to the steering wheel 16. When a deviation between the travel support torque and the steering torque is a preset torque deviation threshold value or more, output of the travel support torque is stopped.
