[Class 4] À A high-lift aeroplane wing has a convergent duct extending from an opening in the underside adjacent the trailing edge to an opening in the upperside located in the region between the leading edge and 45 per cent. of the chord, adjustable means being provided to control the entry of air into the lower opening and to create a wake, and means being provided to direct rearwardly air issuing from the upper opening. As shown. the duct 9 is of nozzle shape and the openings 4, 5 are controlled by flaps 1, 7 pivoted to the rear and front spars respectively. Both flaps are shaped to complete the contour of the wing when closed and are opened simultaneously but moved through different angles. The flap 7 may be dispensed with and the upper end of the duct directedly rearwardly, The openings may extend between the ailerons and the fuselage or in the region of. the ailerons.
